Description

Blue Gate Petrus is simply gorgeous. He is standing at the head of class of 2009 at Blue Gate Alpacas, and that is extremely high praise because he was in some impressive company. From the time his fleece was dry right after he was born, and every day since then this boy has impressed us with his bone, upright conformation, and fleece, fleece, fleece. We had to choose a name that bespoke his elite heritage and bright future. We chose to name him after one of the best wines in the world, Chateau Petrus.

The wine theme made sense since his sire is our Ultimate herd sire, Snowmass Porteus (named for another wine). Porteus is a genetic powerhouse with Herdsire of the Year winners on both his dam and sire's side. His sire is Snowmass XXXtreme, a son of Snowmass Royal Rose. Porteus' dam is a daughter of Snowmass Casanova, Casanova's Crescenda. She recently sold in the Snowmass auction, described as the best female offsping produced by Casanova. Wrap that all up in Porteus and you get a two time blue ribbon winner at the Futurity, and Futurity Reserve Color Champion. Porteus' offsping are slowly hitting the show circuit with great results, including the 2009 AOBA Brown Male Color Champion (Snowmass Maderian Gold).

We paired Porteus with our outstanding Evander daughter, Chase Tavern Pita. She is a full sister to an AOBA blue ribbon winner and carries the fleece machine genetics of a sparingly used Alianza stud, Inca's Ransom. We liked the prospect of crossing the Alianza lines in Porteus (Hemingway and Bueno) with Inca's Ransom. The result is simply phenomenal.
