TXOLAN 2021 and COVID-19

TXOLAN 2021 and COVID-19

The State of Texas has taken all appropriate measures in regard to COVID-19. Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, has issued Executive Orders since the onset of COVID in our state. Executive Order 29 was issued on July 2, 2020, and this specific order addresses the issue of masking. No county in Texas may issue orders or pass ordinances that supersede the Governor’s Executive Orders. This order may be read in its entirety online at this link.

The order specifically says:

“Every person in Texas shall wear a face covering over the nose and mouth when inside a commercial entity or other building or space open to the public, or when in an outdoor public space, wherever it is not feasible to maintain six feet of social distancing from another person not in the same household…”

There are exceptions to this order that would affect anyone’s expectation that absolutely everyone they see will conform to this order at our February TXOLAN Shows. These exceptions include those of or below age 10, those with medical or disability considerations, those giving a speech, and all who are eating or drinking while attending the show or the Banquet/Live Auction. These exceptions may be read in detail at the above link. Other exceptions that do not generally apply to our shows may also be reviewed at the above link.

The TXOLAN Board of Directors therefore will require the Shows’ staff, the attending exhibitors, the vendors, all volunteers, and all members of the public to adhere to all requirements of the State of Texas regarding COVID-19. This includes all those entering the facility to not enter if they suspect illness or exposure to COVID -19 patients, to wear a mask (in an appropriate manner) at all times (unless subject to Exceptions in the Governor’s Executive Order), to practice respectful social distancing, and to maintain good hand sanitary practices, and any other reasonable precautions.

TXOLAN Board Members are asked to act as gentle enforcers of Governor Abbott’s order. Privacy Compliance considerations means that we may not inquire as to why a person is not wearing a mask. But when we see someone without a mask, we may ask them to wear one. If their response is that they are not wearing one under the exceptions listed in the Governor’s order, that is all they need to say.

Vendors and Ranches/Farms may wish to make additional hand sanitizer available in their farm booths.

Mask Considerations

  • All in attendance are expected to wear their masks so that they cover both the nose and the mouth when worn.
  • Also, using disposable masks is the best choice to ensure not only the wearer’s safety, but also those with whom they come into contact.
  • A new mask for each day is highly recommended.
  • Fashion conscious masks, those made of single layer cotton or other fibers, neck gators, and similar masks are strongly discouraged as they have been shown to be less reliable in minimizing the spread of oral vapors.
  • And please, do not pull down the mask away from your lips when speaking to someone else.

Following these guidelines will keep all of us safer during the shows.

Show and Banquet Considerations:

  1. Employees of the Bridwell Ag Center working in food service are expected to follow the Governor’s Executive Order GA-29 regarding masks.
  2. Signs regarding our masking requirement will be posted at all entrances to the public. Extra masks will be provided free to the public at these entrances.
  3. Exhibitors, Gate Stewards, and Ring Stewards should maintain at least a 6 feet social distancing when queuing for events in the Ring.
    1. Signs will be posted for Exhibitor positioning where entry into the judging ring is in the order of the Show Book—Halter, Production Classes, Bred & Owned, Get of Sire / Produce of Dam , and Novice Halter.
    2. Signs will be posted for Exhibitor positioning when entry into the judging ring is not required to be in the order of the Show Book—Walking Fleece.
  4. Exhibitors, Gate Stewards, and Ring Stewards should maintain at least a 6 feet social distancing when following the judge’s instructions for lining up in the ring.
  5. Judges will not pass our ribbons or shake hands with exhibitors after the judging is complete. Ribbons will be placed on a table by a TXOLAN volunteer, and then be available to the event winners to pick up as they exit the ring.
  6. TXOLAN Judges will be provided with both antibacterial products, saline wipes, and a first aid kit for their use when in the ring.
  7. Banquet/Live Auction guests are asked to sit with a common pre-exposed group as the venue has been viewed by the TXOLAN President to be large enough to adequately space our guests.
  8. Banquet/Live Auction food service staff chefs and waitstaff will be gloved and masked and will follow all appropriate sanitization procedures. All food will be served to each guest.

Please note that the TXOLAN Board of Directors has much concern for the health of all that attend our shows in February, 2021. We will take every precaution that we can. And we are open to your inquires/comments/questions. We will also stay in touch with all Exhibitors after the show to report any known cases that come to our knowledge. We appreciate so very much your kind cooperation and adherence to what society in general has deemed to be common sense precautions.

This policy is up to date to the best of our knowledge, but it is subject to updates/changes per any changes made by the State of Texas, or by Governor Abbott.

Respectfully submitted,
