How could one be smitten since 2 weeks of age? Especially when you are a grey fleece fan and his color doesn't typically excite you. He is that beautiful! We encouraged others to get their eyes and hands on him and in doing so, it landed his sire more dates. We nearly drooled over this guy when the breeze caught his fleece. This guy's dam, Kisu, name means "kiss" in Japanese so we thought we would come up with a name with kiss. Hence, Kiss of the King (though I could just about kiss myself for making this breeding decision) When we were going through our breeding options we decided to forgo a nice full Accoyo breeding & try for a linebreed on Kahuna with the beautiful sire, OTN Peruvian Yukon. "Pucara Kahuna" for those that aren't aware, was herdsire of the year numerous years. His dam, Kisu is a Kahuna daughter and his sire Yukon is a Kahuna grandson. We have seen first-hand the genetic jump that can be given to offspring of a linebreed. We anticipated his genetics would deliver favorable results in future generations.
Early on, at a judging event, Dale Davis remarked he was a little small in size but if I had a photo of her expression when she got her hands on his fleece - a big, wow! His fleece score card got excellent marks across the board with an emphasis on lovely luster and an added note to "Show" with exclamation mark(s)!! At his first show the Nationals we were actually happy to get a 6th place while other beauties from long time breeders left the ring without any ribbon. He was still on the smaller side and the judges comments were really only that he needed more time to grow. The following show King took a first place and Color Champion in halter and also a Championship in walking fleece! Both judges said "well done" after examining him. I literally jumped up with excitement when he got Champion because I had seen his competitors up close. His fleece regrowth after shearings does not disappoint and he grew up so sturdy.
We participated in the Suri Herd Improvement Program and the evaluator affirmed his show record, perfect scores in conformation, maximum or top scores in most all fleece categories and she commented that his luster looked just a notch above some other top dazzlers on the ranch. His 2018 histogram 19.7 micron with a 4 SD & 2019 he was 23.6 AFD 3.8 SD 16.2 CV with a noted positive of very little variation in length.
King had his first cria who surprised us being a pinto pattern from a fawn dam that had white markings but what a beauty! We decided to add more to his dance card and even rolled the dice with one of our lovely grey girls. We think he really shined through, literally. What a gorgeous guy he had with our silver grey girl Lilac. Summer 2023 he has produced two females, a lovely looking light fawn and dark fawn or light brown.
King is currently underutilized with our predominately grey herd. Don't hesitiate to contact us.
